영어로 글쓰기. 한국인을 위한 이야기 영작.


'안수진 강사의 한국인을 위한 이야기 영작'또한 나의 이번 겨울맞이 영어 공부의 일환이다.
영어로 멋진 글을 써 내면 좋겠다는 부푼 희망을 품고 시작했지만, 갈 길이 멀다는 결론이 나왔다.
'영어는 들인 시간에 비해서 왜 이리 늘지 않을까?'
'나에겐 영어 세포가 없는 걸까?'
특히 글을 쓰기 위해선 어휘력이 부족하다는 걸 통감한다.
영어는 많아야 200단어 정도 쓰면서 사는 것 같은데,
이걸로 사는데 별 지장이 없으니 그런 게 아닐까 싶다.
만약 내가 갑자기 영어영어별에 떨어져서, 작가로 살던가 죽어야 한다면,
지금보다 영어 실력이 좀 나아질 텐데.:D


영작 공부 팁

  1. 단어 위주로 공부하지 않는다.
  2. 이미 알고 있는 어휘들의 용법을 집중적으로 공부한다.


문법

사람 이름(고유명사)는 대문자로 시작하며, 관사가 붙지 않는다.
소유격과 관사(a, the)는 함께 쓰지 않는다.

과거는 언제나 과거여야 한다.
감탄문에선 도치가 안된다.
우리말은 동사의 시제가 언제나 일치되지 않지만, 영어에선 시제가 언제나 일치한다.

She read the book + sloely
She (slowly) read the book (slowly).
타동사와 명사는 사랑하는 사이.(타동사와 명사 사이에는 아무것도 넣지 않는다.)

간접의문문을 만드는 법
1. 직접 의문문 속에서 주어와 동사의 위치를 바꾼다.
Who are you? - Who you are?
2. 다른 주어와 동사를 앞에 붙인다.
I asked who you are.

V + 동사원형 + ing
stop, enjoy, keep, quit, give up, mind, consider, suggest
V + to + 동사원형:
want, hope, need, decide, expect, offer, promise, pretend
Hope, need, decide, expect, offer, promise, want + to 부정사
미래의 일일때. 개인적 희망이나 바람을 표현할 때 to부정사를 쓴다.

주격 관계대명사절 1

We adopted a cat.
The cat had mysterious eyes.
We adopted a cat which had mysterious eyes.
뒤에있는 the cat을 관계대명사로 바꿔준다.
주격 관계대명사는 생략할 수 없다.

주격 관계대명사졀 2

I found money.
The money was hidden in the refrigerator.
I found money which was hidden in the refrigerator.
주격 관계대명사 + be동새 : 주격 관계대명사와 be동사를 함께 생략

부분 부정 all, every + not

Everyone couldn't walk.
Not everyone could walk.

I should help him. 나는 그를 도와야 한다.
I had to help him. 과거에 도왔어야 했다.
I should have helped him. 나는 그를 도왔어야 했는데 하지 않았다.
shuld + have P.P.(과거분사) : 과거에 ~해야 했는데 하지 않았다.
You shouldn't have (done this). 이러실 필요 없는데.(감사 표현)

형용사 + 명사

many jewels, big screens, an important invention
Cf. Everything, something, anything, nothing.

So that ~ can구문

We use bags so that we can carry more.
We use bags so that we ( cannot(x)) (will not (o)) lose our belongings.

~하기 위해서 to 부정사
- ~하지 않기 위해서
I close my eyes to see her. + not
I close my eyes not to see her.

전치사

  1. Stop, enjoy, keep, quit, give up, mind, consider, suggest
  2. 전치사 + ing / 명사
    be use to + ing : ~하는데 익숙하다
    be use to의 to는 전치사이다. 동사원형이 아닌 ~ing를 쓴다.

형용사 보어란?

My uncle is famous. + his neighborhood.
My uncle is famous in his neighborhood.

How 감탄사절.
Trees are so fresh - How fresh trees are!

How 감탄사 절이 목적어 절이 될 때
The boys knows how fresh trees are.

명사 앞 형용사 순서
five little sparrows,
the five little sparrows.
my seven red pen.

so + that 구문
Because the cellphone was very cheap, I bought it immediatly.
The cellphone was so cheap (that) I bought it immediatly.

비인칭 주어 it 이란?
- 사람을 가리키지 않으며, 별 의미 없는 빈 주어이므로 해석하지 않는다.
Snow comes today. (x)
It snows today.(o)
날씨 외에도, 시간 날짜를 막연히 가리킴
It's five o clock.
날이 밝거나 어두움을 막연히 가리킴.
It's dark here.

의문문 : do 동사를 쓴다.
일반동사를 부정할 때 do 동사를 쓴다.
do 동사를 일반 동사 앞에 사용.
do동사로 수와 시제를 표현
do동사 뒤에 not을 붙인다.

사람이 소유한 것 : 소유격
사람의 소유 A's B - my skin
사람이 아닌것의 일부 B of A - skin of apples

기본 복문 형태 : 주절 + 부사절 or 부사절 + 주절

* Althiugh
* When
* as soon as
He took off his jacket because it was hot.
Because it was hot, he took off his jacket.

기본 중문 형태 : 독립절 + 중문 접속사 + 독립절
* And
* But
* Or
* So
It was hot, so he took off his jacket.

중문 접속사

  • and
  • but
  • or
  • so
    I was disappointed, but I kept waiting.
    however 쓸땐 ;however, 형태로 복합중문에 쓴다.
목적어 문장이 복문이면 that을 생략하지 않는다.
동사가 여러 개 나오면 접속사를 마지막 동사 앞에 써준다.

준동사란?

동사의 변형
* to+V to부정사
* V+ing 동명사

~하기 위해서

in order to + 동사원형 != for + ~ing
Because of + 명사 , Because + 절

동사원형+ing
stop, enjoy, keep, quit, give up, mind, consider
to + 동사원형
want, hope, need, decide, expect, offer, promise

목적어를 보충 설명하는 보어 : to + 동사원형

I want my dog to be happy.
동사 want : '주어 + want + 목적어 + to 동사원형'

보어

  1. 주어를 보충 설명하는 말.
    I am a cook.
    The driver was nice.
    You look young.
    You look like young. (x)
2 목적어를 보충 설명하는 말.
He made me a star.
Dogs make people happy.
  1. 주어, 목적어를 제대로 설명하는 말
    She looked independent.
    She looked independence (x)

정관사 the의 위치

  1. 주로 'the + 형용사 + 명사' :
    the pretty cashier, the three bridges
  2. '형용사 + the + 명사': all, both, half
    all the questions, half the price.

As soon as + S + V (As soon as 뒤에는 반드시 절(S+V)이 온다.)

As soon as he arrived, he baked bread.
- On arriving, he baked bread.
As soon as Jungmi arrived, he baked bread.
- On Jungmi arriving, he baked bread. (주어가 일치하지 않을 땐 생략할 수 없다.)


동사 용법

go : A go to B

자동사 : 주어 + 자동사 + 전치사 + 명사
타동사 : 주어 + 타동사 + 명사
셀 수 있는 명사 앞에는 a, the, 소유격 중 하나를 쓴다.
셀 수 있는 명사는 관사를 꼭 써야 한다.
추상명사는 관사 없이 쓸 수 있다.
추상 명사앞엔 관사 a를 붙이지 않고 복수형을 쓸 수 없다.

자동사 look : A look at B

동사 tell : story, secret
동사 said : everything, something, anything, nothing

목적어를 두 개 쓰는 동사.

You gave me help.
My wife sent you cookies.
We wish you a Merry Christmas.
누구에게 ~을 하다.
S + V + O + O
동사 wish + that 절 : that절 = 가정법 문장

see : 보다

I see you.
지각동사 see : '누가 ~(동사) 하고 있는 걸 보다'
I see you drinking milk.
'주어 + see + 목적어 + -ing'
'~이기 때문' : to + 동사 원형
I'm happy to see you.
I'm happy because I see you. (너무 길다.)

notice : '보다.'

They noticed a stranger.
지각동사 notice : '누가 ~(동사) 하는 걸 보다.'
They noticed a stranger talking to the boy.

seem : ~하는 것 같다. ~인 것 같다.

너 날 오해하고 있어.
You misunderstand me.
너 날 오해하고 있는 것 같아.
You seem misunderstand me.
'주어 + seem + to부정사'
동사 semm의 용법2
너 날 오해하고 있는 것 같아.
You seem to misunderstand me.
= It seems that you misunderstand me.
'It seems that 주어 + 동사'
1. You seem to like me.
seem + to 부정사 : ~하는 것 같다.
2. It seems that you like me.
it seems + that 절 : ~하는 것 같다.
3. You seem like a professional.
You seem like + 명사 : (명사)~ 같다

진주어 (사람) + seem + to부정사
가주어(It) + seems + that 주어 동사

It is like a prince loves a beggar.
= 그건 왕자가 거지를 사랑하는 것 같아. (비유적인 표현)
It seems that the prince loves a beggar.
= 왕자가 거지를 사랑하는 것 같아. (불확실함을 표현)

insist : 우기다, 주장하다

목적어로 that절이 오며, 명사가 올 수 없다.
He insisted me cleaning the bathroom. (x)
He insisted that he should clean the bathroom.

like

I like dancing. 나는 춤 추는 걸 좋아한다.
I like to dance. 난 춤추고 싶다.
love, hate, try도 like처럼 사용한다.
begin, start, continue, end는 의미차이가 없다.
because 절은 독립적으로 쓰지 않는다.
also 는 주어와 동사가 같을 때 쓴다.
She danced. She also drank beer.
too는 주어가 다르고 동사만 같을 때 쓴다.
She danced. He danced, too.

Promise

promise me 나에게 약속해
promise to meet me 나를 만날 것을 약속해. (잘 쓰지 않는다.)
promise me that you'll meet me tomorrow. 나에게 약속해 너 내일 나 만난다고.

excite :흥분시키다.

The news excited us.
We were excited by the news.
ex) surprise, stun

become

I became their mother. 명사
The cats becamr plump. 형용사.
The game became exciting. 동명사
We became excited. 과거분사

let : 주어 + let * 목적어 + 동사원형(과거분사)

She let me help her son.
She allowed me to help her son.

agree

  1. I agree your suggestion. (x)
    명사를 목적어로 갖지 않는다.
  2. I agree with your suggestion.
    당신의 의견에 동의합니다. (행동을 하지 않는 심적 동의)
  3. I agree to your suggestion.
    당신의 의견에 동의합니다. (행동을 동반한 동의, 직접적인 동의)

worry

worry는 to 부정사를 목적어로 취하지 않는다.
1. You worried me.
너 때문에 걱정했잖아.
2. I (was) worried about you.
너에 대해서 걱정했잖아.
3. I (was) worried that you might have an accident.
네가 사고 당했을까봐 걱정했잖아.

begin

begin - began - begun.
ex. start, continue, end
cf. like, love, hate, try

relieve

타동사이다.
1. Sleep relieves my stress
She relieves of my stress. (x)
명사를 목적어로 갖는다.
2. Sleep relieves me of my stress.
She relieves my stress from me. (x)
Relieve A of B : A에게서 B를 분리시키다.
3. I was relieved of my stress.
B be relieved of A : 용법 2의 수동태 문장

want

  1. I want you.
  2. I want to be happy.
  3. I want you to be happy.

wish

  1. I wish you a Merry Christmas.
    Wish A(명사) + B(명사) : A에게 B를 기원하다.
  2. I wish that I were taller.
    wish + that(가정법 과거) ~하기를 원하다.

ask

  1. Student asked me.
  2. Student asked me many questions.
    Student asked many questions of me.
    Ask + A(목적어1) + B(목적어2 : A에게 B를 묻다.
  3. Student asked me how to be good at english writing
    Ask + 명사/대명사 + 의문사 + to부정사

remind

  1. Please, remind me.
    나에게 기억을 떠올리게 해 주세요. - 나한테 말좀 해줘.
  2. The flower reminds me of the poem.
    그 꽃을 보면 그 시가 떠오른다.
    I am reminded of the poem when I look at the flowers.
    내가 꽃을 보면 그 시를 떠올린다.

realize

  1. I realized.
  2. I realized the meaning.
  3. I realized that I knew the meaning.
    I realized (knowing, to know) the meaning. 준동사인 동명사나 to부정사를 목적어로 가지지 않는다.

forget

  1. He forgot his password.
  2. He forgot typing in his password. 그는 타이핑 한 것을 잊었다.
    He forgot to type in his password.
    그는 타이핑 할 것을 잊었다.

find

  1. She found me.
  2. She found me a job.
    She found a job for me.
    ex. Do, make, buy

encourage

  1. My friends encourage me.
    사람에게 용기를 주다.
    2 My friends encourage me to talk to him.
    '주어 + encourage + 목적어 + to 부정사'
    ~에게 ~하라고 용기를 주다.(격려하다)
    ex) want, allow, ask
    encourage는 that절을 목적어로 갖지 못한다.

whisper

My friend whispered.
My friend whispered to me.
My friend whispered to me something strange.
My friend whispered something strange to the friendly nurse.

fall - fell - fallen 넘어지다.
fell - felled - falled 넘어 뜨리다.
bleed - bleed - bled 피가 나다.


형용사 용법

afraid

I am afraid of spiders
I am afraid that spiders will come into my room.
I am afraid to touch spiders
be afraid + to 부정사 ~하기를 두려워하다.
ex) likely, ready, careful

The animals are dangerous
dangerous 위험을 끼치는
The animals are in danger
be in danger 위험에 처한
dangerous의 형식상 특징
It is dangerous to run down stairs.
It(가주어) + to부정사(진주어)용법

말해봐.

동사 tell : A tell B
Tell me.
Say to me.
tell + that절 - tell : 알다, 판단하다.
tell + 목적어 + that 절 - tell: 말하다.

such는 명사를 꾸민다.

such girls / such a strong girl
so는 형용사를 꾸민다.
so strong / so strong a girl

other + 복수 명사

other people, other hospitals

another + 단수 명사

another person, another hospital, an another person.

much vs. many

many + 복수 people schools children
much + 단수 homework money information
a lot of / lots of는 복수와 단수 모두에 쓸 수 있다.

little vs. few

little 뒤에는 셀 수 없는 명사
(a little water)
little 부정적 의미 (거의 없다.)
a little 긍정적 의미 (조금 있다.)
few 뒤에는 셀 수 있는 명사를 쓴다.
(a few turtles)

such vs. so

such : 명사를 꾸밈 such girls, such a strong girl
so : 형용사를 꾸밈 so strong, so strong a girl.

everyday(형용사) vs. every day(부사)

We experience miracles in everyday life. 우리는 일상에서 기적을 경험한다.
We experience miracles in every day. 우리는 기적을 매일 경험한다.

protect vs. prevent

protect A from B (A(명사)와 B(명사)는 다른 대상이다.)
You should protect yourself from bees.
prevent A from B (A(주어) B(동명사) A에 대한 동작 )
You should prevent yourself from committing a crime.

see vs. watch

watch(주의깊게) 관찰하다.
see 보다. 그냥 보다. (시력에 관계 없다.)
I watched the movie.
I was watching the movie.
I saw him in the theater.
I was watching him in the theater. (보다(see)의 의미로 과거 진행을 표현할 땐 watching을 쓴다.)
I was seeing him. 나는 그 당시 그사람과 사귀고 있었다.
Are you seeing anyone? 너 요즘 누구 만나는 사람 있니?
I'm seeing someone. 나 요즘 누구 만나.

처음에 at first
나중에 at later
처음으로 for the first time
마지막으로 for the last time

beside : ~옆에(공간적인 개념)
besides : ~뿐만 아니라
Besides apples, orange and tomatoes are rotten.

Be devoted to + ing ~하는데 익숙하다.
be used to + ing : ~ 하는 데에 익숙하다.(어떠한 행위에 익숙함)
* We are used to changing machines. 기계를 바꾸는데 익숙해졌다
* We used to change machines. 기계를 바꾸곤 했다.
be familiar with + 명사 : ~을 안다.

its = it의 소유격
it's = it is의 줄임말

a country 국가
the country 그 국가, 시골


단어

(~이 아닐 거라고) 의심하다. doubt
He doubts that she is a preschooler.
(~일 거라고) 의심하다. suspect
He suspects that she is a preschooler.
~하는 척 하다. pretend
징징거리다. whine
(따라가던 사람을)놓치다 lose
